The Southminster Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in someone’s home to discuss a selected, non-scripture work with a spiritual theme or message. All are welcome! If you are new to the group, please contact the church office for the meeting location.
The group will meet next on January 27, 2020 to discuss The Theology of The United Church of Canada by Don Schweitzer, Robert C. Fennell and Michael Bourgeois.
This volume provides a comprehensive overview of the UCC’s theological development, together with an analysis of the core statements of faith and its contemporary theological landscape. In creative tension with each individual member’s freedom of conscience, the United Church has continued to express its commonly held faith in dialogue, continuity, and critical interaction with the faith of the worldwide, historic Christian community.
The February meeting will be held on February 24 to discuss Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress by Steven Pinker.
House Church is a new small group which held its first meeting in January. We read selections from Brian McLaren's new book We Make The Road By Walking. A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation. As well, we read the corresponding selections from Scripture. Each session includes a reflection, discussion and prayer and is meant to be relaxed and meaningful.
We meet on an evening determined by the group. All are welcome. Please contact the church office for more details and meeting location.
Every Tuesday from 9:30 am 12 noon a group meets and tackles odd jobs around the building. They do anything from painting, laying tile, refinishing wooden surfaces, repairing concrete, to hanging pictures and running errands. They can always use another helping hand or two. For more information, contact the church office.
